Many couples struggle with trying to piece together how they want their engagement photos to look. They wonder what they should wear, finding a location, looking for a studio, and the list goes on and on. Then, once they have decided on a route to take, they struggle with what products they should purchase after their photo shoot.
Insatsu Media takes these worries into consideration and that’s why we created a free PDF for you to simplify the planning of your Engagement Session. As residents of Atlanta, we have location suggestions, styling tips to ensure that you stand out and not your outfits, and recommendations of what printed products may best suit your lifestyle. We want you to not only walk away with memorable photos, but also prints that represent the love in your life.
We know planning to have professional photos of you and your loved one can lead to a whirlpool of emotions. The anxiety of wanting to own photos, the frustrations that come with planning because you have so many ideas of how you want them to look, even the hesitation that arises due to not feeling like you’re not physically ready to book an engagement session. At times it may even feel overwhelming.
We understand. We have been in this position before in front of and behind the camera. Our guide is designed to add clarity to your vision and also help bring it to life. We provide what to wear suggestions that take the season of your session into consideration. We also offer a list of locations that will undoubtedly match the aesthetic that you are looking for.
1. Wear what makes you feel comfortable
It may be tempting to wear outfits that look like you should be on the Red Carpet for a Hollywood Premiere, and if that’s something that you are into you should definitely go for it! If it’s not, that is more than okay. When you wear clothing that you are not comfortable with, it will definitely show in your images. The goal is to look like yourselves. Not doing so will lead to you looking awkward in your photos. If you prefer jeans and t-shirts then that is the look you want to execute!
2. You don’t have to match
Not only does it look cliche, but it also looks less dynamic than when your outfit compliments your partner’s. Look to use solid prints and complimentary colors. Patterns can be okay, but too much can create a diversion from the subject (you!). Remember you’re the star of the show, not the location and definitely not your outfit.
3. Color choices
Unless there is a specific look that you want to achieve, neon colors are not favorable. Also, oranges, especially on melanated skin, aren’t very photogenic. Pastels and cooler colors are great choices along with neutral tones (white, black, brown, ivory, etc.). Keep in mind that reds will command the viewers’ eye. If you wear anything red that’s under your neck region, you risk pulling the attention away from your faces and away from the connection you share.
4. Accessorize with accessories
Jewelry is a quick way to add even more flavor to your outfits. Items like bracelets, necklaces, earrings can really add more emphasis to the look of your session. Be conscious of the placement of rings. They should compliment your engagement ring if you choose to wear them. If you’re unsure, try wearing them on your right hand instead. Other items like belts and scarves can also add more interest and are easy to put on and take off, giving you multiple looks during your session.
5. Consider dressing in layers
This is another way to get multiple looks during your engagement session. You can consider jackets, sweaters or accessories like hats that can be removed without much hassle. This will allow you to have a variety of looks in your images without taking the time to completely change your clothing.
6. Get your favorite photos printed
There’s no better way to display the photos from your session than to have them printed. Wall art can quickly turn into your favorite type of decor, especially if you have been looking for ways to fill up those blank areas on your walls. Mounted prints look phenomenal framed, and can also be displayed on tables or stands. Albums have a luxury feel and can harness the nostalgia of gathering around with family and friends flipping through your favorite photos. If you can’t decide what products are right with you, don’t fret. We can guide you to the prints that will fit into your lifestyle.
